This is a letter from our local online farmers market Director. Food for thought.

Greetings Conway Locally Grown Community,

Hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving! Our nation’s ailing food system was the subject of discussion at my house, and I wanted to share these thoughts with you.

Conway Wiki Write-A-Thon: Dec 8

December 8th, 4pm, ZaZa's Pizza in Conway.

Please come out and show your support for the Conway Wiki, a resource that will make life in Conway a little easier, and hopefully a little more fun.  It's a great platform and very easy to use.  This event is part of Code for America's national campaign - the Race for Reuse.  We're one of 49 cities hosting events for civic apps like the Conway Wiki.  The brigades need your help! Please invite your friends and come get to know the wiki community. There will be a brief introduction, some activities, and lots of socializing.

Local Food

Spaghetti Squash Casserole

adapted from the Moosewood Cookbook by Mollie Katzen

Like always I have taken a little inspiration from someone else's recipe and used the ingredients I have on hand. As I write this the beeper on my oven goes off and I regret not having some cheese to broil on top for that extra delicousness--but ohh well, improvisation is the name of the game.

Conway ArtsFest 2012 - Thanks Everyone!

September was a crazy month for La Lucha Space, you probably wouldn't have known that by looking at our website... That's because it was all hands on deck for Conway ArtsFest.  This years fest was a great success with large number in attendance at a diverse offering of art events by many many great organizations.

We cannot thank everyone enough for their participation, and the hard work of the countless individuals that make these events possible.  The arts don't stop when ArtsFest ends so keep in touch.

The reason were away from LaLuchaSpace.com temporarily is because we were hard at work over at ArtsInConway.org where you can read all about ArtsFest.

More exciting changes and announcements on the way, but we have some catching up to do!  Stay tuned for Urban Farm Project announcements and a new survey that you'll actually want to fill out.

Thanks all!

La Lucha Space @ TinkerFest

The Overview & Back-Story

If you see this, and it is August 4th - get on your bike or in your car and head for the Museum of Discovery from 12noon - 4pm.  TinkerFest is happening and it will be awesome (stay tuned for a post event wrap up).

This is an post I wrote as I prepared an Arduino display for Tinkerfest, as a newb to the Arduino I wanted to provide something for those who want to get started, and parents who want to facilitate the learning of their kids.... Read on if you're interested in my opinion on the matter..When I wrote this I was working on animating a styrofoam head - you know, just for kicks and to learn.

LLS on GOOD - Time to vote for tech!

In the enthusiasm during and after BarCamp 2012 I began to scheme about a project that could involve all these awesome people I met at BarCamp and simultaneously serve to better our community.  This was reinforced when numerous others at the conference shared ideas that were so related, and so many expressed genuine desire to do possitive things - namely education.  Joe Murphy (@JoeMurphy) even expressed, during his presentation on Making, a desire to see 3-d printers in the classroom.  These weren't far off visions or speculation of a distant future, he was saying we ought to have them there now.

I think Joe is right, and I'm ready to start working in that direction.

So a couple of us got together in these recent days following the conference and put together an idea for a GOOD Maker Challenge.  We think it is a pretty solid idea and we demand that if you see this page you go vote for it! Hackers Unite! It's time to rock the vote and get ourselves funds to educate - hacker style, with curiousity and freedom.  The space they gave to present our idea was limited, so read on to get a more complete picture. (Yup, all links in the last paragraph take you here, to vote for our project.)

BarCamp Conway! June 2

June 2nd, 8am - 5pm @ UCA College of Business. Please register.

The following rant is my best effort to share with you my enthusiasm about attending BarCamp this Saturday.  If you want solid facts, or to register (you should), check out their website barcampconway.com.

There is plenty to be excited about here folks.  BarCamp Conway promises to be a blast. There will probably be swag (did I hear something about t-shirts?), the event is free, there is a sponsored after party, and of course - many members of our community excited to share their knowledge about technology. (Read on for all the info, and more)
